WHERE DID IT ALL START?

Back in January 2017 a series of three writing workshops were held in Lennoxtown Library on Monday afternoons. They were presented by author Alison Irvine.
The group who attended, having enjoyed the experience so much that they didn’t want it to finish, got together to start the Campsie Writers’ Group. The first meeting was on 13 March 2017 and it blossomed from there. Gordon Waugh, Marion Donachie, Claire Miller, Denise Docherty, John Docherty, Muriel Connell were the first members.
Bella Kerr of East Dunbartonshire Voluntary Action Group helped us with the Constitution and to obtain funding to get us going. She has been an incredible support.

The Group has blossomed over the past four years. We’ve hosted some interesting guest speakers and one achievement has been Gordon Waugh becoming a first time published author. Another was producing an anthology booklet while working with Whitefield Lodge Care Home.
We operate as a community organisation. Undeterred through lockdown, we’ve reached out via Zoom to local members and others outwith our region. Hopefully, soon we’ll be able to get back together, face to face, for at least some of our meetings.
